Margalla Hills are a part of Himalayas located north of Islamabad. For me they are the most beautiful part of our city and always give me a feeling of freshness and cold, you can see them from anywhere in the city! To get a closer view, you can visit spots like Daman-e-koh (Daman-e-koh –> Lap of a mountain), an extremely beautiful park and restaurants, or Pir Sohawa, which is the highest point around the city. Or if you are more of an adventurous kind, get to a hiking track like Trail 3! There are around 7 hiking tracks along the Margallas called trails and numbered 1 through 7. Trail 3 is the most popular among them as it leads to Pir Sohawa. The total time it’ll take you to hike up is almost 45 minutes and you’ll get straight up to Pir Sohawa. Most people like me, who get tired half way never reach the end and come back down 😀 The track is equally intriguing for biologists, botanists, and paleontologists because it is full of fossils of even sea creatures showing that they were once a part of the sea and there and several plant and insect species which are not to be found anywhere else in the city. The rock formations date back to around 40 million years! Interesting isn’t it? You would also find foot steps of leopards that sometime step down at nights! But don’t worry they are long gone by the morning! Oh and don’t ignore the monkeys! They will always be keeping an eye on you! 😉
The most pleasant time to visit and hike is mornings! You go up have your breakfast up there and come back fresher and healthier! Spending such time in sheer nature, surrounded by plants an fresh mountain air, moist with water from nearby streams and ponds, sounds great! Doesn’t it? The best part for me is to look down and see the whole city down below and guessing which road leads to where! Which avenue is that, where is our house, where is my school oh this is so much fun! There are several resting spots on the way and you could sit and relax for a while. For more adventurous people there are some shortcuts but very dangerous though, called fire lines. Here I have just a few clicks from our way up. Enjoy!
This is just one of the ways to feel the Margallas! More coming up! 🙂
